How have Kisan Baburao Hazare (India ) and his diehard zealots escaped being detained, restrained, arrested or prosecuted?
We live in an era of expediency. The world is thronged by bigots who only need a rattling sound by rumor mongers to spring a blockade on government, authority or establishment. The pomp and extravaganza of 2011-Common Wealth Games hosted in Delhi recently was one such occasion. The authorities overseeing preparations for the event had to be on their toes due to constant bickering and intermittent complaints by over enthusiasts, mostly from among opposition, that kept pointing fingers at instances of water logging caused due to incessant rain and inclement weather. Even media did not lag behind in trumpeting the hazards faced by general public. Whispers too went around about the likelihood of the event being cancelled. Fortunately a positive approach adopted by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit and Central Government worked the miracle. All anxieties and apprehensions by people and the media were belied and the venues thrown open for the event within the stipulated period.
While the pendulum swung back and forth between hope and despair for the hosts, the opposition parties were eager to exploit the suspense leading up to the event. Finally, the needle within the haystack was traced and what emerged as a delight to the opposition turned out to be a nightmare for the government. The needle of suspicion pointed to a grueling corruption that practically deflated the moving wheels of a national event.
Before the curtain could be pulled up and the event commenced, loud whispers went around alleging huge amounts of public fund having been stashed away through spurious channels in to private accounts abroad. With a view to arresting any likely damage to the national image and to avoid embarrassment being caused to hordes of athletes participating in the event or sending wrong signal to athletes and dignitaries visiting from foreign countries, the Central and Delhi Governments swung in to action. A national catastrophe was nipped in the bud and a fiasco of colossal magnitude averted. The grandiose event, the only one of its kind for a nation that deemed the event as a rare opportunity to upgrade its infrastructure and the overall outlook of the capital, was conducted with much fanfare. Thanks to the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government and other officials who intervened at the nick of time. The event marked a grand success. And the national anthem on the evening of 14th October, 2010 pulled the curtain down without allowing rumors to mar the situation. But the damage was done and the cat was out. Corruption of a colossal magnitude! The question that now poses is “who will bell the cat?”
Extremism calls for daredevilry to act and make good the escape or self-destruct themselves, but not so with corruption.
Corruption is a despicable art, committed by people and syndicate with relatively high skill and ability to ride rough shod over government, law and authority. Corruption is no law and order problem, no failure of government machinery, no intelligence failure and does not attract a situation for imposition of emergency. Indulgence in corruption demands high density nerves, temerity of extreme tolerance and a spurt of intelligence that can withstand pressure from people and government alike.
Corruption is a high handed atrocity that adds new dimension to hitherto known list of social menaces. The people and government today are waking up to a new dawn, a new era emerging out of the shadows of crime and influence, a passion for wealth and comfort, a systematic descent to depths of ease and carefree-ness whereby large amounts of public wealth are tunneled off to foreign banks, the route and source of which are intrinsically shaded with dubious people and underworld dons.
For stamping out this social menace, there is need to ensure close coordination between people and government, frame new laws that can motivate people to scrupulously follow laws and procedures without straying off the path of truth and righteousness. Unfortunately, the world and people have fallen off the cliff of hard work and dedication in to depths of mediocrity and petulance because corruption was no issue at the time of framing of the constitution.
Kisan Baburao Hazare is a tune without rhythm, a voice devoid of sound, a spirit without truth, a mind without conscience, a wind that blows nobody any good and a man who cannot officiate as a mediator between masses and the government. The only good trait in him is an un-written will to fade away from life with a Gandhian image, which wish of his too fails to materialize because he possesses no charisma or a national image. All that he has is a driving force called ‘ego’, which is hooded behind his vague articulation to rid corruption off the national periphery and which call of his is orchestrated by a few of his regional followers from Ralegaon. To go straight to the point, he is yet to feel the pulse of the nation and the nation his worth.
What Hazare ought to have done, in the thick of allegations of corruption was to adopt a stand, formulate a view, find a solution and pave the way for people and machinery (democratically elected government) set in motion to act, without allowing chaos to set in and cripple the system that we have endeared for so many decades. In its place, what he actually did was to feign a ‘mahatma’ and undertake a fast. The welfare of the nation and the upholding of a government, the Constitution and the prestige of the nation ought to stand supreme in the mind of all citizens whereas in the case of Hazare, he had the entire machinery including the government beckoned to his aid, trying to persuade him to break the fast, which ultimately he did, but to what effect? The nation lost as many days of activity tending to a freak mahatma of ill-gotten mind of his own.
We have a functioning government unlike that of the communal one, which while in powr from 1998 to 2004, had engaged itself swaying between national priorities and communal organizations. It was a pretentious government that was manipulated by communal forces like RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena, Ram Sene and their like. The short break of 6 years at the centre tripped the national priorities and after the present government stepped in, with the help of a fractured coalition, the UPA made its mark felt by people and institutions alike, the statistics of which are there for everyone to see.
Merely picking out names of people, officials and members within the government and flinging aspersions of corruption on any particular politician does not augur well for a nation aspiring as a super power contender. The present government is fully active and where instances of corruption does surface, necessary action to rectify the area is being carried out with loyalty and dedication.
The government at the centre is active and decisive with firm will to establish a corruption-free society. However, there are hurdles that need to be tackled through legal procedures and by keeping the prestige of the nation in mind. There are also areas which need to be kept aloof from prying eyes of foreign countries, others which need to be preserved from ordinary public. Thereafter, to clear the hassles for ridding the nation of evil forces at work, will need to be done cautiously without stepping on to the rights and privileges of people at different levels.
Hazare needs to do homework and analyze the repercussions of over indulgence which could overstep on to other people’s privileges. Merely by undertaking a fast unto death, the evil does not vanish nor does it hasten the process. Moreover, government does not have sweeping powers to formulate policies and hand them down as law. It has to weigh the options, fight the opposition which is there to block any or all attempt at creation of laws and then give the objective a necessary thrust to make a law effective.
Ramdev or Hazare might blurt their mind or profess a fast unto death, but is that the ultimate that people need to do? Are we not diverting the work and profession of the government machinery? And for how long will two people hold the nation to ransom and to what effect? We all carry views that emanate out of hearsay or gossip stuff available at every nook and corner of the nation all 24 hours. But when you get down to reality, there are hurdles which can best be removed by a government set in motion. Corruption is a plague which has caught up with everybody but ought we to take to streets and stall the process of a democratically elected government to bend down to appease their singular demands? They, within the government, too are human beings who ought not be chased by pestering them at will, lest they commit major blunders, the repercussions of which could be irreversible. Individuals and mob ought not be allowed to ransack the system, which needs to follow legalities before arriving at a solution.
The duo – Hazare and Ramdev in unison have given the basic virtues of patience and scrupulousness a skip and adopted measures through coercive and blackmail tactics in their bid to axe a democratic appeal by the government to abide by a timely process. The present stage of corruption culminated through many decades of let up in our effort to bring about the process, which from time to time got deflected with the change of governments. Now that the UPA government is well in place, we may expect a possible and positive result, but for everything a vibrant majority within the government is the asking rate. Can we provide that?
In order to excel in every discipline or to bring about brilliance in every aspect, the complete system and governance need to be overhauled. Merely by pulling at loose ends such as corruption, the focus could be lost and opportunity squandered away unnecessarily whereby the very same elements indulging in nefarious activities might try and find out alternate methods of overcoming the hurdles placed in a hurry to keep the evil elements at bay. The country is presently on the right path to progress and development and it should be the endeavor of people and individuals to address the loopholes facing the society, the nation and the world in general.
The nation has its wheels deflated by a bunch of hostile elements in the shape of communal organizations (like RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena Ram Zene etc and the alike) and to realize any positive result, be it ridding of corruption, there is always these elements and the communal parties creating hurdles.
We the people of India have a tendency to side track burning issues that have a bearing on the lives and welfare of people. However, on the contrary, the majority of our people and organizations concentrate on communal issues because we are not able to rid our hatred and hate campaign against people of other communities. The great question that needs to be answered by those hankering to rid corruption is why does a nation with Hindu majority require so many Hindu organizations? Because logic and religion are not on their side, rather extremism and hate are. There is no oneness within the psyche of people who profess to be devout disciples of mythological idols and mystic gods.
Unfortunately, Hindus are not able to reconcile with their own misadventures, so people have to link them and their culture with a colour – why not saffron? Ayodhya issue and its aftermath where their own vices have given voice to their own culture of extremism rather than a spirit of reconciliation is by itself an eye opener, on the extent to which religion could disintegrate the nation in to a chaotic state in a couple of decades hence.
A bunch of jokers in the form of communal fanatics have taken the centre stage on a land which has always been safeguarded by the single party that has kept itself aloof from communal politics. We need to reassure ourselves that the nation is on the right rails and must necessarily allow it to function at a pace and process that would take the entire country forward irrespective of a community, race, caste or state.
However, by no means can corruption be curbed by undertaking a ‘fast unto death’ and paralyzing the government machinery, authority and establishment as did the 71 year old Baburao Kisan Hazare on 5th April, 2011. Hazare from within the Panel is stepping up his penchant for fast-unto-death for 16th August, 2011. He needs to realize that corruption is a world phenomenon and should he go ahead with his threat for 16th August 2011, the least the Government of India ought to do is to depute a functionary to place a wreath as a mark of respect for a deliberately departed soul of Kisan Baburao Hazare, who being an uneducated Social Worker from Ralegaon Siddhi pursued the intelligent swindlers of a corrupt India and fasted to meet his end! R.I.P.
SHOULD AFZAL BE SENT TO THE GALLOWS?
ReplyDeleteA question that brought disquiet among the people of J&K as well as in political circles, is now creating a halo around Afzal's head? Is he quilty or not? Let us give a thought.
PANGS OF JUSTICE
What is in a name? They call him Mohammad Afzal. He could have been an ‘Amir’, a 'Kalaam' or even an ‘Irfan’. It was not a name that did an osama at the twin towers. Not a name that devastated a 26/11 at Mumbai either. Ironically, even the name that drafted the Indian Constitution is no more. Ambedkar is gone never to return and the entire universe will agree with me on this assertion. This being the case, there is no chance for getting the over half century old Indian Constitution redrafted all over again. Thus, the only alternative left for imparting the so called "social, economic, political including secular justice" is via the people of India and through them the President, who has to decide whether Afzal should pay with death for what Ambedkar failed - excuse me for saying it - failed even to suggest a rider to the preamble of the Indian Constitution. I leave it at that.
A SECOND THOUGHT
Had Mohammad Afzal been born elsewhere in a Muslim country, he would now have been living happily united with his family, not having to conspire against a country which failed to accept his community as sons of the same soil. However, circumstances made him a victim of his own destiny, perforce having to endure the disgrace of seeing his own fellow Muslims being ill-treated at the hands of his own countrymen, having to account for a crime that perhaps neither he nor his own community committed at Godhra, having to watch people of his community being slain and butchered in Gujarat, having to accept the statusquo of a razed Masjid at Ayodhya, having to watch women and children of his community being discriminated against, to the extent of being made scapegoat for any and all ill-doings of some reckless stray elements taking advantage of the vulnerability of Indian culture, to have been destined to live a life of horror and panic in a country that is heaping insult over injustice on minorities as in his case, and last but not the least, having to suffer the ignominy of being denied an opportunity to any of the minorities in India to be elevated to the post of a Prime Minister, a post monopolized by the Hindus constituting a majority in his own country through high-handed maneuvering. What can such a hapless victim of similar circumstances stake his claim for but the noose, which the communal party of the nation is aching to hand it over to him on a platter!
A HALF DEMOCRACY THAT IS INDIA
It is an irrefutable fact that the Indian Constitution germinated on a Hindu land, under the auspices of a Hindu law for the government of a Hindu majority, advocating a Hindu 'ISM' which deprives a human being (read Mohammad Afzal) from getting a Muslim-oriented justice. No body can refute this ground reality over which the country's fraternity rests. In the interest of a full-fledged and conspicuously transparent democracy (as Pandit put it - "of the people, by the people and for the people) a mandatory clause allowing the inclusion of a panel of judges constituted from among the community to which the accused belong, ought to find its way in to the Indian Constitution. In the absence of such a provision, the Indian Constitution would appear like an autocratic Hindu-oriented doctrine.
As a matter of fact, hitherto no community whether from the Muslim, Christian, Budhist or any of the faithful from the divergent religions coexisting in India, have ever dared to demand the inclusion of this basic right so benevolently overlooked in the Indian Constitution. Here lies the basic right that Afzal and his community, forming an integral segment of Indian population, have been divested with. Where then is the essence of democracy which should give equal opportunity and secular justice to communities of other category? How can a gagged citizen exert his right in an environment that hardly allows him to worship in peace? Is democracy itself the noose whereby one has to refrain from making a say? I leave it at that.
ReplyDeletePARTING JUSTICE
I would like to remind those who are vehemently gesticulating for his death that, ever since he was convicted he is on record having sought a 'fair trial' as a final wish. All through the drama of court proceedings, he has been silently awaiting the ultimate that is to befall on him and his family. Law has caught up with him, and he knows for sure that there is no escape route but to follow the one only way where no one would dare to set foot on. Ever since his conviction, he has been a resigned man to the extent of being convinced that justice will be loathe in coming to his aid but for a last minute change of mind here or there. Recent developments beginning with his conviction, fixation of date for his execution followed by an appeal for mercy forwarded by his kin to the President of India and the public outcry to save him from the gallows, has given a respite to Afzal to look forward to some change of heart by the President of India, who is known to be a person who will not compromise on principles. Incidentally, things are looking up with the date of execution slated for 20th October having been put off. However, the real Afzal, who must be convinced that what he did was grave and worthy of condemnation, must be passing time behind bars counting days in his cell. Surely, once convicted, he must have got it firmly in his mind that time is ebbing out of his personal history.
Afzal is as much a human being as those very criminals who mercilessly butchered thousands of his community members in Gujarat but are roaming scot free today, thanks to political heavyweights and diabolical hoodlums with the arm of law firmly in the grip of their sympathizers. Naming them is like getting the hands soiled by the filth of their own criminal activities. Afzal has been steadfast in his demand for a fair trial. All eyes are now on the President of India to weigh the odds and cast his mind on the situation. Who can say that a mercy granted to Afzal allowing him to live on will not set his mind in motion to soothe the minds of his own Muslim brethren to shun the path of violence and bring those who have strayed away back in to the one fold of a united nation. The well wishers of Afzal, on their part, anxiously await a gesture of goodwill from the President so as to allow a hapless victim of circumstances to come out of his confusion and consternation.
Now back to where we started - Is he guilty or not? Since the Muslim community has had no hand in the verdict, I would have to negate - and vehemently so - from giving a verdict of the like that has come to pass. Nothing more to add!
My salute to the Muslim community and their brethren in India or abroad. A salute to all Muslims who were made to bear the brunt of Hindu fanaticism for ages. Salute to those Islamic followers who were forced to distance themselves from a ‘Hindustan’ of Hindu fanatics who were labeled enemies of a nation that failed to accept them as honourable citizens of a free India, a people who have been labeled as extremists (or be it even a slur as “Dawood Gang”) for the convenience of a majority community. My undaunted and everlasting salute to all Muslims of this free nation called ‘Hindustan’!
ReplyDeleteIt needs to be asserted emphatically that Muslims are an integral part constituting a second majority with every right to live a life of peace as enshrined in the Preamble of a Constitution of India that was adopted on 26th January, 1950.
This piece has been written keeping in mind the grave injustice meted out to this section of our brethren who have been very unkindly singled out for heaping canard and allegations, insult and injury or devastation and death. People of India need to hang their heads in shame for such attitude or lack of attitude whereby honest and upright citizens of Muslim origin of a free India have been made to suffer ignominiously through no fault of theirs.
Without providing a narrative of instances of brutality and criminal neglect endured by them, this writer as a true Catholic must assert with all firmness that Muslims have always respected places of worship and never indulged in arson, looting or breaking up of such holy places, be it church or temple etc. But what have they received in return? Scorn and detest of the extreme kind! God forgive a communally charged ‘Hindustan’.
ReplyDeleteThis writer, while whole-heartedly appreciating their grievances, wish to lay down a special and personal appeal that the elite Muslims who distanced themselves from the nation and are living outside the country out of fear or panic, should set aside all of the torture & criminal victimization endured by them at the hands of Hindu fanatics by forsaking their grudges, forgeting the past and fall in line with their brethren by returning to mainstream life and living a life of peace and harmony with the entire Muslim fellowship including other communities with the blessings of the Almighty.
Ajmal Amir Kasab (1987-2012) was nabbed, tried, sentenced and ultimately hanged by India, the law and people of this great country. Immediately as the news of hanging was blazed by the media, the mobs ostensibly belonging to the majority community of India took to streets to celebrate the day and occation namely Wednesday, the 21st November, 2012 as a day of vengeance. What remains to be seen is, will the event forbode an era of peace for the nation or is it going to spark an unprecedented strike by the extremist groups to ignite a daredevely by its neighbor?
ReplyDeleteAs a staunch believer and promoter of “Universal Love and Brotherhood”, this writer is keen to find out what the collective say of Muslims regarding the developments which shocked the nation on 26th-29th November 2008 and its aftermath is, which incident shook the conscience of the nation taking a heavy toll of 164 innocent lives in its wake and the shock of which ended with the euphoria by a mob celebrating the hanging of the lone surviving assassin namely Ajmal Amir Kasab on 21st November, 2012? Like any other convict reacting at being led to the gallows by a heavily fortified security, this misguided youngster too squeezed his resigned mind out of his lips with a parting utterance as he feebly uttered to people around - “It was a mistake – which shall never happen again”.
26/11 was a war. The brutality was an outcome of public menace. In the present instance it came from across the border and the response by India too was befitting the occasion. In a jiffy the attackers were eliminated and one lone assassin namely Amir Ajmal Kasab nabbed. The menace of 26/11 ended there. Kasab became a prisoner of war and the court after a protracted trial gave its verdict, which saw its logical end with Kasab being sent up the scaffolding to pay for his guilt, which he accepted in good part with his final utterance ‘A mistake”. Thanks to Kasab that he gave himself up to the Creator in a apparent show of humility, resigned at what came about and went silenced for ever. R.I.P.
Abolish death penalty – ban execution! Bar barbarity on human beings eternally. whose fate can be decided by the Almighty alone!
ReplyDeleteSour grapes are not sour because they grow on a different soil. Rather, they are sour product having undergone a different metabolism.
So was Amir Ajmal Kasab, a victim of brain-wash by extremist-minds. All the same he was a child of a mother who was remembered by the son even in isolation – “you have informed my mother about it – have you?” That was the final testament for a mother from a youngster who joined a gang merely to supplement the financial resources to see his mother live a life of contentment, be it even at the cost of his own life. Thanks Kasab, your silent death was inspiration to this script – the secret of your mission. R.I.P.
Why is Indian mindset flickering or fluctuating from one graph to the other merely to augment their mean sense of respect for human beings? Is it because the person they take inspiration from namely their Lord Ram failed in his mission to bring Ravan around to his point of view and had to eliminate a whole army of human beings under an excuse of rescuing a female – I repeat – one lone female? Then how is Hindu concept any the different from that of Muslims whereas the latter at least desist from uttering a whole lot of filthy male-female-oriented abuses which clearly demolish spirituality within the society, what to speak of their own temples? The entire concept of meting out justice to human beings, for instances of misdeed or guilt needs to be viewed within the framework of human nature and finiteness.
However, full marks to Congress Party and other secular forces including Law and law enforcing men in uniform who faced the rebellion by a handful of misguided youths from across the border on 26/11 with astuteness and restraint. They not only managed to set the clock back to where it belonged but even nabbed one of the culprits in to the bargain.
But the public who are the ultimate menace of all evils within society or nation need to be condemned outright and a deterrent punishment meted out to hazardous people who unscrupulously mar or maim the society and smooth running of life for people and nation.
Ever since the UPA government started its term during 2009 there has been eeriness mostly among the opposition parties but to a great extent even among the communal elements including RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena, Ram Sena and what have you? Reason – that they would have to wait for a long span of five years before they could make a dart to scratch around for regaining power center.
ReplyDeleteRestlessness among political parties is quite obvious as it is the only platform that they can vie for a position of fame or reputation. Moreover, the Indian public mostly made up of communal outfits and disgruntled elements cannot be easily bought with soothing words. They would want a bargain to replenish their private treasuries.
We have a functioning government unlike that of the communal one, which while in power from 1998 to 2004, had engaged itself swaying between national priorities and communal organizations. But the manner in which the UPA government has had to eke out some form of respite from restless people making a beeline to shadow the limelight has been not only eroding the name and fame of the nation but even robbing the Parliament of its smooth functioning. Merely picking out names of people, officials and members within the government and flinging aspersions of corruption on any particular politician does not augur well for a nation aspiring to be a super power contender. It is therefore, of paramount importance that parties and individuals who are baying for the blood of people in position or power need to exercise caution before attempting to undo the freedom achieved after a hard fought battle of wits and diplomacy.

The nation emerged strong in the face of backlash by its own adversaries and the most stumbling block of adversary was the opposition and a select group of communal elements in the form of RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena, Ram Sena and you name it, there was no dearth of them. Emergency imposed on the nation by Smt. Indira Gandhi heralded the emergeance of a nation out of the shadows of militancy (sponsored by the then opposition), Jayaprakash Narayan included and other disgruntled elements which list also includes the then George Fernandez and his accomplices. Militancy by these elements working against the force of the nation and welfare of people gave teeth to communalization of society, young and old. It even sawed the seed of hatred among the majority community against minorities consisting of Christianity, Muslims etc. This militancy allowed sessation of harmony and operation blue star came about which was much needed to nip in the bud the sikh frustration to saw the seed of disintegration. In the thick of confusion the real issues got faded and became so to speak irredeemable to be dealt with. What dominated the scene was an air of opposition backing all that could send the nation to chaos. The world was yet to come abreast of many of the sophisticated medium required to educate the then public. Students’ unrest apart there was largescale arson, looting and criminality.
ReplyDelete70’s was a dark period in the history of the nation. People were disillusioned with the ongoing strikes, hartals, arson, loot, destruction of government buildings, property, apparatus, the democratic machinery founded so strong through years of struggle and so on. What could the government do when people left to themselves take to destructive tendencies for demanding democratic fulfillment for enhancement of salaries and such or similar demands. INC stood upright in the face of it all.
The then leaders bore with the brunt of public menace. Even great stalwarts of political forum stood to oppose the government and leaders. Indian National Congress could not be browbeaten by people with hardly a sense of national upkeep. It was the staunchest of efforts put in by Congress Party of now as well as then that managed to outlive chaos and barbarity. What need we more to eulogise the architecture of Indian National Congress?
Corruption does not exist. Even if it does, it does not deserve so much of upheaval for public to take to streets because the country is united with an elected government at its helm, having its reins in the hands of people whose forefathers achieved it the freedom and laid the foundation for a strong India under the auspices of Indian National Congress. The voice of the nation, its resolve, its determination is resolute and no amount of poking fun of the government or its leaders would hamper the nation’s progress.
ReplyDeleteTo be precise ‘corruption’ in form and manner as is portrayed by some freak minded individuals, crying shrill by roadside shows or in open-air conclaves ought to be seen as a vain attempt to browbeat a fully determined government. All the hue and cry about corruption alleging it to be eroding a nation like India is mere myth.
However, in order to tackle this pestilent menace, the government needs to get going by setting the law enforcing agencies on the trail of these haphazard elements who keep disturbing the peace of the nation, people and the government. Fail these rumor mongers, stand with the government to find even traces of such minor evil evaporate in to thin air.
Arrogant and vicious men with hardly any trace of conviction within might disturb the peace of the nation and people. These elements are never trustworthy especially for a huge nation like India.
Corrupt people never portray any arrogant trait within them. It needs to be borne in mind that the corrupt or arrogant ones are those who keep rumour mongering by crying ‘wolf – wolf’ for that which does not even exist in quantum it is made out to be. These moves by unworthy elements is all an outcome of frustration by maniacs who cannot afford a solution to minor evils that creep up within any group or society. However, flinging aspersions on an elected government or standing on mid road to blurt or point fingers at people who have made innumerable sacrifices for the nation is essentially a sign of mental deficit. Whereas truly honest and uncorrupt people will get down to reforming even traces of evil within a society only through dedication and peaceful methods.
Corruption does not exist. There is no corruption and all talk of corruption is a myth. I repeat with emphasis – there is no corruption as is made out and in the measure some stray, blunt and ignorant elements want to portray the nation to be in. Does this sound Greek to some?
ReplyDeleteThe nation was never free from chaos, turmoil or incidents causing enormous hardships to public, highhandedness, nefarious activities, atrocities, brutalities & butcheries, wars, catastrophes, natural calamities, besides murders, kidnap for ransom, hijack, criminal assault, loot, theft, burglary, extremism, cross-border terrorism, civil strife, communal riots, dowry deaths, rape of innocents, plunder by people, tax evasion, snatching and pickpockets, theft of vehicles, arson, labour unrest, hoarding of essential commodities, pilferage of items, marketing day to day items & essential commodities at exorbitant rates – and what have you?
Nevertheless, India never forsook its development plans, activities and programs. The government did not ever throw up its hands fed up of the anarchy and chaos committed by its own people. It did not blame the citizens and people who stood to benefit from the progress the nation was making through unstinted efforts of a government that was awake to people’s problems. Today the same nation is capable of hoisting Common Wealth Games, Asiad and like events which project the nation as a force to reckon with.
All the developments took place at the behest of a party nurtured to its existence by people of eminence, dignified people who had a dream to see India on top of the world map. However, the country was never free from high-handedness by vested interests by people who savoured freedom yet preferred luxury and comfort to commitment and hard work.
People who lived for more than 60 years – this writer included - and watched the nation progress steadily by huge strides, step by step, are witnesses to a dream being logically fulfilled. Years of yearning by renowned and dignified people of eminence who streamlined a path to climax and had the nation bloom in the horizon of a new dawn, a new age and a new era with minutely planned strategy for development as also reared up noble minds to handle the overall political realm of a free India are never devoid of statistics.
India which was originally projected as an ‘under-developed country’ and with the passage of time came to be eventually referred to as ‘undeveloped’, today this very nation stands heads high above most nations having qualified to be a super power contender. All this occurred at the behest of a national party, which churned out a direction for a people who hardly measured up to attaining basic education and know-how. As of today the nation owns a novel vision, a novel vista and a novel periphery to include the world in its reckoning. Do not these aspects show India in a new light quite ahead of the reach of the existing twenty-first century?
ReplyDeleteThe nation could not have progressed this far, had the country been under a spell of corruption by its own people as some blunt elements want to convey to public on the roadside. As a result of these blurts by blunt elements whose utterances carry neither a reason nor rationale, a parallel system has been created to the detriment of an elected government at its helm with a tremendous set back to the progress the country is making. All the cry that is available from the public as of today is about ‘corruption’ the essence of which does not exist at all. It all just boils down to mere humbug.
No. Within the soul of the nation, within the government manned by Congress Party in alliance with regional outfits, there is truly no corruption. Their minds are focused with a determined resolve to keep corruption, if any, at bay. But the indulgence by public under the hood of opposition, communalists, extremists and criminals tend to undermine the efforts put in by human beings within the government and the end game by public within gain the edge over facts or truth. When the custodians of people’s rights themselves come under fire or onslaught from a rampaging public or one might put it as parallel extremism straight from the road, the focus loses its grip and the nation has to take the beating for a fault committed by public themselves. No, I still emphasize with strictness & clarity that corruption does not exist – rather public menace does.

CORRUPTION IN A GLORIOUS INDIA
A lot of fuss is being created on the question of corruption gnawing into every corner of the country with no solution in view to end the stigma. What really makes corruption so rampant? Money, money and money ! The whole country is agog with a hushed debate on the question of 21st century getting slugged in the mire of corruption. Everyone has his own views and even the very people who indulge in corruption, curse the day it started in India. They brag about the British rule when India was not so pronounced in the spread of corruption as is today. No one really wants to put forward a solution to remedy the menace. And now, it is dope scandal all the way!
MERIT IN THE BIN
Fuming and fretting by players when a dope scandal is detected and notified to the media is a common phenomenon. It has happened to many a sports person. Renowned players and international Olympic athletes have fallen victims of dope overnight. Some national players managed to extricate themselves out of the anatomy, while others went down fighting. Match fixing also took its toll resulting in the removal of certain players from the national scene. Some of the national players had to bow out while at the international level, players of Hansie’s repute vanished with the scar on, in to oblivion. Such issues cause an instant flutter in the minds of fans and the inevitable happens. With the naming of a scandal, the hype lingers on for a while till it recedes after a short while. The player gets distanced from the game and the public from the player. Either way the inevitable takes place. The glories reaped through years of dedication and skill gets washed away from the eye of the public, that too in a matter of time. For once, the darn thing caught up with Rawalpindi Express as well. Incidentally, the real dopers are hidden behind the scenes. Who are these culprits and how are the players duped into doping or match-fixing? Let us take a look at how matters come to such a sorry level.
IT PAYS TO SQUANDER AWAY NORMS
The organizers of the games lure the players to compete for a slot in the team. Attached to every position is a financial fortune. The bonanza that is offered to players inflames the spirit and the temptation catches up with every incumbent manoeuvring to catch the eye of selectors. The temptation by players is such that they discard all norms of decency and embrace illegal methods and procedures to achieve the desired slot by hook or by crook. The gravitational pull by way of monetary fortune gives a clear edge for anyone to aspire for the top position. The onus for the tragic happenings and consequent exit of certain players in disgrace lies with the organizers, who are squarely to be blamed for inflaming the players and the public alike to disregard other modes of entrtainment. Once achieved, people make all sorts of patriotic expressions to captivate the minds of their would-be fans. The organizers for their part, having an eye on the funds that can be generated through such competitions, give the games and the players an extraordinary colour, so much so, there is a mad rush by people aspiring to take the field in the same manner as the viewers themselves, in their eagerness to grab an opportunity and the fortune attached to the sport. As a result, both the country and the viewers lose their fortune in to the bargain.

The whole thing is an illusory drama and nothing else. Very much like writing a whole lot of news on UFO’s, which an avid reader relishes with keen interest. But on reaching the last line, he realizes that he has acquired no more information on UFO’s than what he had heard of prior to reading the article. My point is, why attach an element of extraordinary fortune or pay packet as incentive to the game, when the whole world is prepared to take the field, given a chance at some time or the other? When a side wins, what really makes the winners flatter the country except with an eye on the rich pay packet that goes with the game and which as a matter of fact lures people to aspire for the slot in the team or play for (?) the country ? The ultimate has already been revealed by the way match-fixing was carried out. Anyway, this is no blame that should befall on every player, as one must admit that there are sincere players as well. Every sport, be it cricket or Olympics (not to exclude film line, the national awards etc etc) has its attraction of its own which provides a glitter to make anyone aspire for a position. Really, if there was no such fortune awaiting the players, be it on the winning side or otherwise, would there be no dearth of players seeking to play for the country? Every person is patriotic to the core and given a chance to play at such national or international level, everyone would be prepared to play for a reasonable compensation. Then why attribute so much of prominence and monetary standards for the players who are lured to monopolize a position. Another argument on the same count is, no person can guarantee a win everytime he takes the field. If the game is all about luck and skill, why deprive the millions of other youngsters who also nurture a desire to play for the country. Why not rotate the chances and allow different teams to demonstrate their skill on the field?
ReplyDeleteLET REASON PREVAIL NOT HYSTERIA
The whole world is hankering for entertainment. There is no dearth of avenues that could be cultivated to enlighten the public interest in the normal course of life, by way of entertainment. Then why stuff some select players with such vast amounts of monetary gains, which could be made use of for the millions who are eager to take part in one or the other aspect of entertainment. Why drain the public funds off the pockets of individuals who get lured to watch and throw away huge amounts for the pleasure of a few hours of match?

A THORNY STUFF CALLED HAZARE NEEDS WEEDING OUT!
ReplyDeleteHow have Kisan Baburao Hazare and his diehard zealots escaped being detained, restrained, arrested or prosecuted?
Indian History describes India as the epitome of the world. This exaggeration cannot be condemned but the fact remains that the nation is struggling to maintain its unity in diversity, by overlooking the number of communal riots, wife burning (of late there has been a climb down in dowry related cases), extremist acts (thanks to Islam for dumping Hindu extremism to the backyard), besides other maneuvering by criminal elements. Although the UPA government has successfully kept the criminals leashed under draconian laws, still criminal conspiracies and spate of murders have not abated. And to top it all, India is history, second to none when it comes to corruption!
Where does India stand in the category of least feared nation? Had it not been for a well balanced government at the centre, we would have had our nose stuck on to the media with news of large-scale looting, arson, raping of nuns, killing of innocent priests, desecrating of churches (as happened in Orissa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhyapradesh and a number of other states) and other such atrocious deeds for which we have a long list of Hindu organizations like RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena, Ram Sena and many others.
Hindus have always been considered a tolerant lot, however, this tolerant lot never managed to abide by their show of tolerance when challenged by Muslims who, by nature, are hot-tempered and the end result is the enmity between these two groups, which have not come to a simmering point since last many years (thanks to UPA government at the centre), the country today needs to be ranked somewhere near the 1st as long as the present balanced government enjoys the majority of its wayward citizens.
The long and short of it all is that the Muslim thrust against Hindus due mostly to the attitude of Hindus who wield a sectarian influence over large chunks of their guiding stars under name and style of RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena, Ram Sene etc. has had a sickening effect on the nation. The inhabitants of the so called ‘Hindustan’ have armies under them recruited to fight ordinary people in the name of defending their religion? Some of these organizations are always involved in the communal flare up. And it was these organizations which razed a whole Masjid at Ayodhya, hacked to death thousands of innocent Muslims in Gujarat, spread their tentacles to many other states creating mayhem for innocent people.
And one last say – ever since Renuka Chowdhary, Former Minister of State termed the extremist acts by communal organizations as ‘talibanization of people’, the communal elements have been kept subdued by the centre and therefore, India under the UPA government does qualify to be elevated to a slot near 1st in the category of least feared nation.
But there are aged people with sycophants who sit on the wings of Hazare and his co-team, who cannot sit back to see peace, harmony, development and achievements because Hazare and his ilk need a halo! So here we are -
Hazare is overstretching limits, bent on disturbing the peace of the nation which may warrant a rethink on his rights as embodied in the constitution. Obviously, he is beckoning a curb of the opportunities accorded under the very constitution that he attempts to defile. Defiling the constitution warrants defying his overtures with permanent strictures or limiting his mobility status limited to his village or thereabouts .
Hazare is up his tricks again. This time the date fixed is a dark cold December 23 that might find him freezing to a solitary end. How about such a likely end making a temporary respite from his hollowness? Assuming his tantrums go awry, what would be the likely outcome which India’s 1.3 billion must make out of the entire episode?

Even as the pall bearers carry Kisan Baburao Hazare’s numb corpse to cremation ground for consigning to flames his last remains, he would be reminiscing with a naïve chuckle under the nose, how he fooled the nation by feigning sympathy on the issue of corruption in high places only to achieve a world renown. Among his fake victims would also be the RSS hoodlums that threw their weight behind him only to launch a frontal attack on the Government and give the crusade a communal link. But was his gamble worth it?
ReplyDeleteEven in earlier instances, the government did not buckle under pressure nor was it outwitted by a rustic element coming from the outskirts of an ill-fated Maharashtra. Inconsistency is his trade mark but the nation has a government of unique character and determination. In effect, during August last the UPA government scored a decisive and fascinating victory by allowing his stubbornness to pine away for 13 wholesome days from 16th to 28th of August, 2011. The beleaguered corpse thus lay at the mercy of a determined government, while hordes of people watched the sequence of drama with curiosity, thrill and eagerness to witness a feeble skeleton of a man lying in state wearing his mindless body out for no cause whatsoever, quite adamant to bid adieu to this world.
UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government holds a vibrant majority and the government is in total control of the ill-conceived motives of a fading opposition working in tandem with the disruptive forces behind the veil of a thrust against corruption. Incidentally, the random few unscrupulous and corrupt forces have been taken to task by a determined government. Moreover, the Indian majority stands firmly behind the government and every one strongly denounces Kisan Baburao Hazare’s tantrums! In the backdrop of such unhealthy connivance by Hazare, there is need to see the entire issue in the right perspective to find out who stands where. To go threadbare, we need to analyze things from the start.
